Michael J. Smith
Partner, Shareholder, CPA, President of McFarlin Brokke, PC
In 2009, Michael joined McFarlin & Brokke, PC. He expanded his leadership role in 2014, becoming a partner and shareholder. In 2019, Michael was appointed to serve as the firm's president. As a CPA and certified financial advisor, Michael's areas of expertise include corporate and individual tax consulting and compliance, and wealth management. He works with owners of businesses in areas of accounting and assurance, financial reporting, reviews, audits, and consulting services.
Michael contributes to local efforts with Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Nebraska's Young Leaders Council. Additionally, he is a board member and finance committee chair of Bemis Center for the Contemporary Arts.
Michael is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Nebraska Society of CPAs, and SPN – Senior Partner Network, (an affiliation of CPA firms with offices in New York, Massachusetts, Michigan, Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, Texas and Nebraska).
Mr. Smith earned his Master of Professional Accountancy degree in 2008 from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
Michael’s interests include faith, family, friends, sports (golf), learning, and cooking.
Scott A. Brokke
Partner, Shareholder, Secretary, CPA, Treasurer of McFarlin & Brokke, PC
Scott Brokke has over three decades of public accounting and investment management experience with the firm. Beginning in 1985 and moving up through the ranks, he has held a variety of key positions with McFarlin & Brokke. Scott’s areas of expertise include individual tax and income tax planning, financial planning and wealth management, estate planning, financial analysis, strategic business planning, and advising both individual and business entities for continual growth.
Scott has served on many non-profit community boards over the years. Currently, he serves as board member and treasurer of the Downtown Kiwanis Club and Arts in Motion, an organization using art to strengthen communities.
His professional affiliations include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Nebraska Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Brokke holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska – Omaha. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1988.
In his leisure time, you'll find Scott enjoying a game of golf or spending time with his grandkids.
Douglas D. Morris
Partner, Shareholder, CPA
Douglas (Doug) Morris joined the McFarlin & Brokke team in 2014 as a staff accountant. In 2021, he was promoted to Partner.
Doug has significant experience and expertise in tax planning and preparation, business consulting, IRS resolutions, and compilations and reviews of financial statements. He works with individuals, businesses, trusts and estates, and non profits.
Industry clients that Doug assists frequently include professional services, real estate, tradespersons, and automotive sales and services.
Make-A-Wish and Project Wee Care are organizations that Doug contributes to locally.
Doug earned his Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting in 2015, and his Master of Professional Accountancy degree in 2016, from the University of Nebraska, Omaha. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Nebraska Society of CPAs.
An outdoor enthusiast, Doug’s interests include football, traveling, and hiking.
Partner, Shareholder, CPA
Kathy Kluth is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Florida with over 25 years of accounting, tax and audit experience.
As the firm’s partner in Ormond Beach, Florida, Kathy has extensive experience working with distribution, retail, construction, insurance, QuickBooks, bookkeeping, and tax accounting.
Kathy joined McFarlin & Brokke in 2001. Since that time, Kathy has been responsible for all aspects of audit work for a range of entities, from SEC companies to small businesses. Kathy provides timely, proactive tax consulting and business planning for many professionals.
Kathy earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from California Polytechnic State University. She became a Certified Public Accountant in 1992.
Kathy serves on boards of many not-for-profit organizations in Nebraska, Iowa, and Florida.
Painting, traveling, and gardening are among Kathy’s greatest joys.
